I took my daughter Emma to see RÜFÜS DU SOL @ MSG, and, let’s be clear: *I* was the one who wanted to go. We didn’t know what to expect — I really like their studio stuff, but what were they going to sound like live? Super high energy, and just a blast. If you want to get a sense of their energy when they’re live, check out their live album Live from Joshua Tree.
Maribou State opened for them, and they were a fantastic opener. While both groups had plenty of sequencing and DJ-level production, they had real musicians and singers on stage. REAL! Like, you know. LIVE.
I thought the guy with the mullet in Maribou State was working particularly hard, especially when he was managing the shaker. I don’t know why I fixated on that, but there it is. I did. I got a picture of it, too.
The show was happening right in the middle of the World Cup. AND, the US Darts Masters was taking place in the InfoSys theater at MSG right below us. I truly don’t understand darts fans, but we saw wizards, nuns, Shrek and Fiona, and people dressed up as parking cones.
So much fun!
