My daughter Emma’s good friend Carlee has apparently been getting a kick out of Deatz Beats. So much so that Cool Jazz for Cooler Weather inspired her to share some music she loves.
This is so cool! This is exactly what I hoped would happen! Someone is sharing their tunes with me, and it’s making me explore!
This is a classic call-and-response list: The first song, and every other song after that is a tune she shared, and each tune in between is a tune that I was inspired to respond with.
Probably the coolest find was when I asked my wife to see if she could find any Billie Holiday songs that had a bossa nova or samba feel. Unfortunately, Billie Holiday died before this style of music grabbed the jazz world. But… Someone out there thought it would be a good idea, and they made The Brazil Connection, a VERY cool collection of rethought mixes of the old and the new. Totally worth a listen. I didn’t end up putting Billie Holiday’s song on this list because Sarah Vaughn’s Summertime was too cool to pass up.
