The Met
[Social Distortion] | [Descendents] | [The Chats] | [?]
Went to see Social Distortion, Descendents, and The Chats last week with my good friends and colleagues Michael Donahue, Terry Brown, and Dennis O’Connor.
To be fair, The Chats are not a throwback punk rock band from the 80’s. They are real deal kids, kicking ass with some ass-whoopin’, beer-drinkin’, santa-crowd-surfin’ punk rock.
That being said, Descendents and Social Distortion can’t really be described as throwbacks, either. Serious energy. Serious fun. These guys kicked ass and took no prisoners. And, they still sounded fresh and exciting. I LOVE live music!
I mean… Descendents’ Milo Aukerman showed up on stage in shorts, a water bottle on a string, and shoes that looked like crocs. He sounded as good as he ever did, i.e., just like a college boy. And they had no lights. White light, punk, kick ass, hardcore, loud, rock. Just like we were at a college auditorium in the 80’s. SO PUNK ROCK!
I didn’t know what to expect from Social Distortion, but Mike Ness and crew delivered an amazing show. I have to admit that Mike Ness made me think a little bit of Ozzy Osbourne: When I saw Black Sabbath about 10 or so years ago, Ozzy was plugged in when he sang, but when he spoke… Well, he wasn’t that easy to understand. Same with Mike Ness. Maybe it was just the sound at the The Met. Yeah. That’s it.
