I never imagined that I’d ever be able to see DJ Shadow live. It seemed like he stopped touring or something way back when, but then he showed up in Philly in 2024, and then again last night. So, here I was, with Ginny and my old, old friends Dan and Lizzie, and we got to meet Josh (yeah – first name basis – we’re besties now – no more Mr. Shadow for me), we took pictures, and we saw what is possibly the coolest concert I’ve ever seen.

Start with Prince Paul. Prince Paul! I mean, right? Prince Paul was the opener! And he was incredible. So incredible, in fact, that it occurred to me that he just might upstage Josh. No need to worry about that, though. DJ Shadow played Endtroducing….. from start to finish like you’ve never heard it before. For those who have never heard this album, I have to believe that it sounded new, fresh, and exciting, and for those (like me) who have listened to this album countless times, it was a fantastic journey into the music, hearing it like it was for the first time. When I immerse myself in this stuff, I get lost in it. It was even more powerful live.

Kind of funny to simply reproduce the Entroducing….. album in a playlist, but this was his setlist, so here we go.

And, if you got this far, here’s another little gift: His final encore of the evening was Nobody Speak. I was reminded just how awesome and sadly relevant that song is.

I have high hopes that he’ll release a live recording of this tour or an “Entroducing for First Time 30 Years Later” album.

Great night!
