Sometime between 1993 and 1995 (ish), I found Portrait of an American Family at a record store, and ever since, I have loved Marilyn Manson’s music.
His loud and obnoxious post-punk rock satisfies my angry music gene, and his shock-rock antics were enough to get my attention.
What makes We Are Chaos so cool is that he dials back some of his shock-rock silliness and focuses more on introspection and actual songwriting. Look, he’s still Marilyn Manson, and he’s still over the top. And, for most people, he might be a little much.
But, for me, this album might be his best one yet. Well, maybe not. Mechanical Animals is still my favorite Manson album, hands down. This one is his second-best.
