I love Nick Cave. I love The Flaming Lips.
So why did it take me this long to hear about this gem?
The story is that Wayne Coyne met 14 year old Lips fan Nell Smith at a show in Canada, and somehow he and Nell decided to do a cover album of Nick Cave songs. It’s called Where The Viaduct Looms, and it’s a great album.
Like, you know, it’s a great Flaming Lips album. AND it’s a great first record by Nell Smith.
Sadly, her entry into the big leagues (Anxious) was released in April of 2025 after Smith tragically died in a car accident. Both albums are great, and you should give them a listen!
Lean into the list that follows her song and you’ll hear some amazing covers by female artists I’m sure yuh know and love. Officially, Nothing Compares 2 U is not a cover, but the song WAS written by Prince.
