Archive – Bridge Scene

I can’t help but love the way you move
I can’t help but love the things you do
I can’t wait to feel you here with me
I can’t help but love the way you move
I can’t help but love the things you do

That’s it. Those are the lyrics to the song. A little bit more meat on the bones than The Hustle, but not much.

You might think this is a love song by looking at the words. I’m not so sure. If the words don’t say much, the name of the song says less. Bridge Scene? What’s that?

Except… the repetition of the music and the tension that it builds create, at least for me, a 5 minute journey into… I don’t know?

But the music resonates. What do you want? Do you want what you can’t have? Are you energized by what isn’t and what might have been? Does it make you angry? Does it make you sad?

I can picture this song going on in the singer’s head, standing on a bridge, pondering the abyss of the water below.

I mean, right? Self absorbed. Tired. Awesome.

And Archive is largely unknown here in the US. Somehow, their voice was drowned out by their trip-hop, post-rock, and alt-rock naval gazer brothers and sisters, like Portishead, Radiohead, Massive Attack, Unkle, and Lamb, just to name a few.

I’m OK with that.
